Songs That Saved Your Life on Instagram: "Martha Wash started her career as a backup singer for Sylvester and had a hit with “It’s Raining Men” with the Weather Girls. In 1990, Wash won lawsuits against music groups C+C Music Factory and Black Box for failing to provide vocal credits for songs she recorded with them as well as committing fraud by using models to lip-sync her vocals in music videos, stage shows, and televised performances."

Martha Wash performed at Joe's Pub on Valentine's Day, and I "borrowed" this footage from @djgantjohnson who attended. One of Sylvester's back-up singers, the divine Martha went on to form Two Tons Of Fun with Izora Armstead, and this song, Just Us, was a hit from those days. Then the group became The Weather Girls, which released the disco anthem It's Raining Men. In the 80s, she provided vocals for Everybody Dance Now, and in the 90s, Black Box used her vocals for the heavenly Strike It Up, Ev

Doing a top 10 countdown for the year. Coming in at # 3, “Martha Wash.” This was my first big video of the year. Caused a lot of hullabaloo, but it brought me to the attention of folks like Missy Elliot & Martha Wash herself, who reportedly loved the video. #marthawash #gonnakeyousweat #candcmusicfactory
